W: Two nominations for the 2010 Awards of Excellence
10th Ave Productions and 10th Ave Editions are proud to announce that W, the humorous series created by screenwriter and director Pierre Greco, and the games designed by Nancy Florence Savard, illustrated by Christian Daigle, enhanced with original music by Olivier Auriol, and broadcast on Télétoon, were nominated for the Youth Media Alliance’s 2010 Awards of Excellence.
W, a series of gags, was nominated in the People’s Award category, and the W et les îles du fleuve games were nominated in the Original Multiplatform Content Related to a TV Program category.
W is a series of gags in 2D animation that recount the adventures of W, a shipwrecked boy whose name is William – a “wise and willing” boy who tries to survive on and find a way off his island. With his friends Cormorant and Shark, this quirky kid creates a wave of sympathy among young people, who hope that W will find success in his misadventures. The dialogue-free series, which now totals 156 gags, is broadcast in more than 40 countries around the world and was the first foreign products, in mobile telephony, selected by CartooNetwork Japan.
W et les îles du fleuve is a suite of games that present the major islands of the St. Lawrence River in a fun-filled environment. Respecting the personality of the characters, each game involves a variety of challenges and calls upon the player to use different skills. The user-friendliness, levels of difficulty, and diversity of the seven games make W et les Îles du fleuve a fun destination that can be experienced in close association with the TV series but also stands alone very well.
10th Ave sees it as a duty to bring to screens the talents and stories of Quebec. “We are honoured by these nominations,” noted designer and producer Nancy Florence Savard. “W is a work that brought together Quebec creative artists, and it is a source of inspiration for our upcoming projects, including the feature Le Coq de St-Victor.” She thanked Télétoon, Telefilm Canada, the Canadian Television Fund, and the Shaw Rocket Fund for their support with these projects.
