On Friday, March 31 at 5 p.m. at Auberge St-Antoine de Qu\u00e9bec, as part of the regional production summit of the Festival de Cin\u00e9ma des 3 Am\u00e9riques, Productions 10e Ave will hold a sneak preview of its new social-medical documentary:\u00a0Forward: The Intelligence of the Bionic Leg<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

For the past three years, producer\/director Nancy Savard has been working on a documentary about amputation and the technological innovation of Saint-Augustin creator St\u00e9phane B\u00e9dard. The director is happy that this moving project, in which the honourable Lucien Bouchard also participated, is now completed with the collaboration of Chantal Ruel in research and Martin Matte as director of post-production. \u201cMr. Bouchard showed proof of great humility in agreeing to talk to us about the phases of rehabilitation it took to return to his everyday life after his leg was amputated.\u201d Mr. Bouchard was a victim of flesh-eating disease in December 1994, and the amputation of his leg was the only way to save his life.<\/p>\n

As did Mr. Bouchard, Simon Bouchard, who is not related to the former Premier, agreed to test St\u00e9phane B\u00e9dard\u2019s technological innovation: the Victhom Bionic Leg. This first international-level creation is the work of a Qu\u00e9bec creator-engineer, and it is currently becoming known world-wide. Following an accident and a number of operations, athlete St\u00e9phane B\u00e9dard realized that his knowledge in robotics and engineering could improve the lives of amputees, and that the models of current passive prostheses should be redesigned to make it easier for amputees to walk.<\/p>\n

With Forward: The Intelligence of the Bionic Leg, the director hopes to raise the veil on certain taboos and help the public understand the great challenge faced by amputees. This documentary could not have been made without the precious collaboration of many patients and specialists from the Institut de r\u00e9adaptation en d\u00e9ficience physique de Qu\u00e9bec, Docteur Pelet, St\u00e9phane B\u00e9dard, Simon Bouchard and lawyer Lucien Bouchard.
