This week the animated film, directed by Christine Dallaire Dupont and Nicola Lemay, written by Andr\u00e9e Lambert and produced by Nancy Florence Savard, will be released in Israel on Thursday and in Vietnam the following day. South Korea, Turkey, Poland and the Netherlands will follow in coming weeks.<\/p><\/p>\n\n<p><p>Represented on international markets by Attraction Distribution with the collaboration of 10<sup>th<\/sup> Ave Studio, this Canadian film, produced in Quebec, has generated over $1.8 million CDN in domestic box office receipts, and rights have been sold in over 110 countries and territories. With a release in France last autumn that ran for more that 13 weeks, the Quebec-made <strong><em>Katak the Brave Beluga<\/em><\/strong> sold over 120,000 tickets.<\/p><\/p>\n\n<p><p>Recipient of multiple awards and selected for numerous festivals including the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, winner of the Iris Award for people\u2019s choice and for success outside Quebec at the most recent Quebec Cinema Gala, <strong><em>Katak the Brave Beluga<\/em><\/strong> will once again be under Canada\u2019s banner at the European Film Market in Berlin this February.<\/p><\/p>\n\n<p><p><strong>Outline of the Film<\/strong><\/p><\/p>\n\n<p><p><strong><em>Katak the Brave Beluga<\/em><\/strong> tells the story of a young Beluga whale who is still grey, though at his age he should have turned white. Because of his late development, he must live among the females, who make things worse by overprotecting him.<\/p><\/p>\n\n<p>When his ailing grandmother confides that she wishes she could see her old true love \u2013 whom Katak has never met \u2013 one last time, Katak decides to make her wish come true and sets out on a secret journey along the shore of the St. Lawrence toward the Arctic, intent on finding his legendary grandfather.<\/p>\n\n<p>Over the course of a dangerous journey, Katak teams up with Cyrano, a neurotic sturgeon. Tracked by the river\u2019s most fearsome predator, the notorious killer whale Jack-Knife, Katak forms an unlikely friendship with Jack-Knife\u2019s daughter, Jack-Lynn, who is a vegetarian.<\/p>\n\n<p><p><strong><em>Katak the Brave Beluga<\/em><\/strong> is a story of filial love, trust, independence and the right to be different, with environmental overtones.
